INEGI Interview
Bigleap2025-09-26T06:54:31+00:001. What is INEGI’s main contribution for the BIG LEAP project?
Answer:
INEGI will lead Task 5.2, focusing on the assessment of the environmental, social, and cost-benefit dimensions of the technologies developed within the BigLEAP project. Through this analysis, we aim to provide valuable insights that will support partners in making informed decisions regarding the sustainability of the technology developed. Our approach involves close collaboration with project partners to thoroughly understand the technologies, their underlying processes, and the sectors in which they are being developed. This engagement helps us identify key sustainability challenges and opportunities for each technology. Additionally, we will evaluate the implications of relevant EU regulations and assist in aligning the developed technologies with these frameworks, ensuring compliance and enhancing their sustainability performance within the European context.
2. Can you explain how INEGI’s work on developing life cycle assessment (LCA) models will help measure the environmental and social impacts of the battery management systems, and why is this important for sustainability?
Answer:
First, with the support of the project partners, we will define a baseline to better understand the main environmental, social, and economic impacts of the technologies. This baseline assessment will allow us to identify key hotspots and areas for improvement, which can then inform the development of more sustainable solutions within the BigLEAP project. Additionally, our work will help ensure that the technologies align with current EU regulations, such as the Critical Raw Materials Act and the Battery Regulation. This alignment is essential to support regulatory compliance and enhance the long-term viability of the technologies.
