Bring Interview
Bigleap2025-09-26T06:57:56+00:001. What is BRING’s main contribution for the BIG LEAP project?
Answer: BRING, as the coordinator and lead beneficiary of WP9, is primarily responsible for project management, coordination, and ethics within the BIG LEAP project. Its key contribution lies in monitoring the technical progress of the project, coordinating the activities of various work packages, and ensuring that the scientific quality of the work is upheld throughout the project. In addition to technical oversight, BRING also manages the administrative and financial aspects of the consortium.
On the technical front, BRING is leading the development of a robust software layer that integrates advanced SoX estimators, cybersecurity features, and homomorphic encryption to support privacy-preserving analytics. A major part of this contribution includes the implementation of a Probabilistic Data Association (PDA) methodology, which supports the project’s goal of achieving interoperability of SoX algorithms across different battery chemistries. This enables the creation of an adaptable feature engineering framework, allowing each SoX algorithm to adjust dynamically to chemistry-specific parameters.
In parallel, BRING is also developing a State of Safety (SoS) algorithm. This advanced model will provide enhanced fault detection functionality for the BMS by identifying which algorithmic features should be adapted based on battery chemistry. Together, these capabilities are essential to realizing BIG LEAP’s vision for interoperable, adaptive, and real-time monitored energy storage systems.
2. Since BRING is the coordinator entity, what challenges does a coordinator phase in the management of a project like BIG LEAP? How are they overcome?
Answer: Coordinating a large scale European project like BIG LEAP presents numerous challenges. BRING must manage a complex consortium that includes 15 partners from various countries and sectors, requiring clear communication channels, aligned objectives, and synchronized execution of tasks. One of the primary challenges is ensuring that all deliverables are produced with high quality and submitted on time. In addition, BRING must ensure that the entire consortium complies with regulatory requirements, such as data protection under GDPR, ethical standards, and legal obligations.
To tackle these challenges, we’ve built a solid foundation around clear processes, open communication, and proactive risk management. At BRING, we regularly assess potential risks so we can catch issues early, before they become real problems. We hold frequent coordination calls, make space for follow-ups with partners, and use a shared platform to keep everyone aligned and informed. Support from AEIMIS on the admin side also helps us stay compliant and focused. It’s not always easy managing a project of this scale, but with a strong team and structured approach, we’ve been able to turn complexity into real progress.
