BIG LEAP Featured at K.E.Y. 2025 During RES4Africa’s Forum on Sustainable Electrification in Africa
Bigleap2026-03-11T08:58:27+00:00The BIG LEAP project was showcased at K.E.Y. – The Energy Transition Expo 2025, during the high‑level conference “Accelerating Sustainable Electrification: Key to Economic and Social Development on the African Continent”, organised by RES4Africa Foundation on 6 March 2025 at Rimini Fiera. The event brought together international institutions, industry leaders and African stakeholders to discuss the central role of electrification, renewable energy and technological innovation in supporting the continent’s socio‑economic development.
The forum opened with remarks from RES4Africa Secretary General Roberto Vigotti, followed by a first panel dedicated to investment strategies for Africa’s sustainable electrification. Representatives from the European Commission, UNECA, the European Investment Bank, Prysmian and CESI explored the policy, financial and industrial conditions needed to accelerate clean energy deployment across the continent.
BIG LEAP was featured in Panel 2: “Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): a key enabler for RE in Africa”, where Camilo Borgogno (AEIMIS) presented the project and contributed to the discussion on the role of innovative storage solutions in enabling renewable integration. The panel gathered leading actors from NIDEC, Solar Energy Systems, ABB, IRESEN and SAPVIA, offering a comprehensive view of how storage technologies can support grid stability, unlock new energy services and accelerate Africa’s transition to clean power.
For BIG LEAP, participation in this forum was an opportunity to engage with stakeholders working on renewable integration, system flexibility and emerging storage needs, areas where second‑life battery solutions can provide meaningful value. The discussions highlighted the growing interest in cost‑effective and sustainable storage approaches across African markets, reinforcing the relevance of BIG LEAP’s work within broader efforts to support the continent’s electrification and energy resilience.
The event concluded with a guided visit to the exhibition stands of K.E.Y., offering further opportunities for dialogue and collaboration. Through RES4Africa’s organisation of the forum and AEIMIS’ representation on behalf of the project, BIG LEAP strengthened its visibility within the African and international energy community and contributed to ongoing conversations on how innovative battery solutions can support a fair and sustainable energy transition.
