The BIG LEAP consortium gathered for its latest General Assembly on 2–3 July 2025, hosted by Berner Fachhochschule (BFH) in Bienne, Switzerland. The two-day meeting brought together project partners from across Europe to review progress, share demonstrations, and align on next steps for the development of interoperable Battery Management Systems (BMS) and Second-Life Battery Energy Storage Systems (SL-BESS).
Day 1: Technical Deep-Dives and Integration Workshops
The first day opened with a warm welcome by BFH and BRING, setting the stage for a full day of technical updates and collaborative workshops.
Key highlights included:
• WP2 Wrap-Up (FHG): Final outcomes of WP2 were presented, showcasing foundational contributions to BMS interoperability.
• WP3 Demonstration (IKE): A live demonstration of the cloud integration of SOX algorithms marked a significant milestone for real-time battery health and performance monitoring.
• WP4 and WP6 Updates (VTT, OCTAVE): Updates from VTT and OCTAVE provided clarity on system-level architecture and hardware-software coordination.
• Integration, Validation & Demonstration Workshop (EDF, EATON, MASEN): This in-depth session focused on aligning partners around validation sites, testing protocols, and the roadmap for demonstrating BIG LEAP solutions under real-world conditions.
The day closed with a wrap-up led by BFH and BRING, who highlighted the excellent collaboration and technical progress across work packages.
Day 2: KPIs, Risks, and Communication
The second day opened with a strategic focus, reviewing project performance and future outreach efforts:
• WP5 & WP9 Review (BRING): A session combining updates on the pilot cases and project coordination ensured alignment on upcoming deliverables and milestones.
• Risk and KPI Monitoring (SIRO): A dedicated session reviewed the risk management framework and progress towards key performance indicators.
• Communication & Dissemination Status (WP8) (AEIMIS): AEIMIS presented the latest outreach and stakeholder engagement activities, highlighting increased visibility and cross-project collaborations.
The meeting concluded with final reflections and closing remarks, emphasising the collective commitment to the BIG LEAP mission and the next implementation phase.
With critical technical components coming together and demonstration activities on the horizon, the BIG LEAP project is well positioned to make significant contributions to the future of battery storage in Europe. The next General Assembly is planned for early 2026 and will continue to build on the strong momentum achieved in Bienne.
