Bigleap2025-10-03T06:35:18+00:00From 22 to 26 September 2025, Strathmore University Business School in Nairobi hosted the first edition of the Regional Executive School – East Africa, organised by RES4Africa. This flagship initiative provided high-level training to senior professionals from the East African energy sector, focusing on innovation, infrastructure, digitalisation, and investment for the renewable energy transition.
During the programme, RES4Africa presented the Horizon Europe BIG LEAP project, which advances the development of next-generation Battery Management Systems (BMS) to improve interoperability and reliability in second-life Battery Energy Storage Systems (SL-BESS). By extending the lifespan of batteries and ensuring safe, smart, and efficient repurposing, BIG LEAP contributes to both sustainability and competitiveness in the global energy landscape.
For East Africa, where energy demand is rapidly growing, BIG LEAP’s approach offers practical solutions to strengthen energy resilience and reduce environmental impact. Leveraging second-life batteries can support affordable storage capacity, enhance integration of renewables, and promote circular economy practices within the energy sector.
Through this presentation, RES4Africa reinforced the importance of international collaboration and innovation in achieving Africa’s clean energy goals, positioning BIG LEAP as a key contributor to a sustainable, reliable, and inclusive energy future.
